‘The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas'

The Port Tobacco Players' production opens at 8 p.m. May 8 and continues through May 24. Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 3 p.m. Sundays. Fine wine and arts

Calvert County artisans will be featured at the second Calvert Wine and Arts Fest from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. May 9. The event, which will allow participants to try the county's wines, will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 100 Lower Marlboro Road, Sunderland. Call 410-257-6306.

Explore the open air

Artists who enjoy painting the outdoors are in invited to participate in "Solomons – Paint the Town: A Plein Air Festival" from May 14-17. Works will be shown and offered for sale in the Annmarie Garden arts building from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 17. Public archaeology

Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum's public archaeology season will run from May 12-July 4. Join the museum's archaeologists in the field at Smith's St. Leonard Site from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and in the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
