Andrews to host air show

The World War II-era Douglass C-54 Skymaster ‘‘Spirit of Freedom” cargo plane will be on static display during next weekend’s air show at Andrews Air Force Base to mark the 60th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift.

Two shows, May 17 and 18, are free and open to the public.ÊThere will also be a performance on Friday, May 16 that is open to Department of Defense personnel and school-sponsored children only.ÊGates open at 8 a.m. each day.
No air show is scheduled at Patuxent River Naval Air Station this year.
This year’s show at Andrews celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift with special commemorative activities, including re-enactments of C-54 aircraft air drops and ceremonies with representatives from the German embassy.ÊThe C-54 ‘‘Spirit of Freedom,” an aircraft used during the Berlin Airlift, will also be featured.
