However, due to a loss to Huntingtown, the team did not achieve that goal.
Despite the fact, Waterloo and her teammates never lost the fact that it is a game, and that the game is meant to be enjoyed.
Read on to see how the Cougars managed plenty of smiles despite losing.
JAMES A. McCRAY II
Dear Diary,
We lost. We made it so far, yet came up short. We wanted to be SMAC champs so bad, but we didn’t play to our full potential.
Hoping to be on top, since we hadn’t been SMAC champs in five years, when the opportunity finally came, we still were unable to conquer.
Ironically, it doesn’t feel like we lost. It doesn’t feel like we failed at all. Although we didn’t get our picture perfect ending to the SMAC season, we were still O.K. The scoreboard that posted 7-5 didn’t seem too significant.
We didn’t cry, nor were we mad at each other or ourselves; we were able to laugh and still have a sense of victory. Not because we played better, but because we went out, played our game and left it on the field in spite of our loss.
While a lot of things didn’t go our way, there was not one inning where we didn’t laugh. Of course we took the game serious and played to win, but we didn’t over do it.
We didn’t play so serious to the point where we consumed ourselves with the score, but the opportunity to just be on the field with one another and playing the game that we love.
I realized that it was O.K. not to be the SMAC champs. It was O.K. to come this far, yet come up short.
Even with the errors that cost us the game, I was proud that we still played our game and never gave up.
We kept that determination throughout the season and fought every time we were down. This time, we just dug ourselves too deep.
