Alice Yvonne Allen Evans, 68, Waldorf

Friday, May 9, 2008

Alice Yvonne Allen Evans, 68, of Waldorf died May 3, 2008, at George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D.C.

Born April 10, 1940, in Durham, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Lamb Barbee and the late Alice Allen.

At the age of eight she moved with her mother to Greenwich, Conn. She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1958. In May 1959 she married Richard Rass Evan Sr. and from that union four children were born.

In 1974, she moved to the Washington, D.C., area. After arriving in Washington she continued her career in banking at D.C. National Bank (C&S Sovran) where she was employed for 15 years. She would often talk about her different experiences at the bank, when the FBI agents would come and how they enjoyed her pleasant demeanor. Yvonne, as she was known, worked for Columbia Hospital for Women⁄Columbia Fertility & Associates as a financial analyst for 22 years until retiring in December 2005.

She was an exceptional cook. She was known most for her fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, strawberry cheesecake, chitterlings and her famous fruit dip. She was Mommy and Grandma to everyone she came in contact with. She would have words of encouragement and always had good advice whenever you needed it. She was an avid reader of Harlequin novels. If anyone knew how to two-step, Momma Evans did. She loved Al Green and oldies music. She was fond of her dog, Lucki.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Rass Evans Jr. and Christopher Randolph Evans; daughters, Denise Glenn Gentry and Stacy Goldwynn Evans; daughters-in law, Nadine, Cheryl and Chiquita; grandchildren, Anthony ‘‘Winks” Harvin, TaKia ‘‘Kiki” Evans, Janai ‘‘The Diva” Evans, Christopher ‘‘Man Man” Evans II, Sydnee ‘‘The Baby” Alexander, Nyia Rae’ Evans and Cornell Rass Evans; granddaughter-in-law, Dominique; one great-grandchild on the way; adopted granddaughter, Senorita Jackson; uncle, Everett Allen of White Plains, N.Y.; cousin, Evelyn Saunders of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; friend, Jim Bullock; and nieces, nephews, cousins and adopted children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of a home going service at 11 a.m. May 10 at the Southeast Christian Fellowship Church, Washington, D.C. Burial will take place at Washington National Cemetery, Suitland.

Arrangements are being handled by Thornton Funeral Home, Pomonkey.
