Mary Elizabeth Hardy, 86, Bel Alton

Mary Elizabeth Hardy, 86, of Bel Alton died May 6, 2008, at Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, La Plata.

She was born April 5, 1922 in Bel Alton, the daughter of the late Peter Noble Thompson and the late Dorothy Key Compton Thompson.

Mrs. Hardy was a homemaker who raised six sons. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Chapel Point. She loved playing cards, working in the tobacco fields and taking care of her family and yard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Hardy Jr.; son Donald L. Hardy Sr.; brothers Kenneth and Francis Thompson; and twin sister, Dorothy K. Brockway.

She was survived by sons, Charles B. Hardy III and his wife, Jackie of Faulkner, Raymond A. Hardy and his wife, Darliene of Florida, Lawrence G. Hardy and his wife, Carolyn of Mechanicsville, Gary L. Hardy and his wife, Susan of Baden and Robert M. Hardy and his wife, Susie of Florida; two sisters, Edna Ehrhardt of Texas and Catherine Carr of Hyattsville; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. May 9 with a wake service at 7 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Chapel La Plata. The Rev. Fred MacIntyre will officiate. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. May 10 at St. Ignatius Church Cemetery, Chapel Point.

Memorial contributions can be made to Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 10200 La Plata Road La Plata, MD 20646.

Arrangements were made by Raymond Funeral Service, La Plata.
