DAR presents Baldus with service award

Louise B. Turner, Community Service Award chairwoman, recommended Baldus for the award, which recognizes worthy local people for outstanding achievement in education, humanitarian, patriotic or historical citizenship endeavors.
According to a press release, Baldus has devoted her life to accomplishing all of these efforts.
She has a deep love and passion for the community as evidenced by her numerous accomplishments, including her positions as co-chairwoman for the 350th anniversary celebration of Charles County, coordinator for the town of La Plata’s holiday decorations and major founder of the annual Mardi Gras event as a hospital fundraiser.
According to the press release, Baldus has also been instrumental in forming the Physicians Memorial Hospital (now Civista Medical Center) Foundation, was first hostess for the Hospice Festival of Trees, chairwoman for the State Road Marking Committee and along with her husband, Carl, fundraiser for the Foundation of the National Association of Farm Management and Rural Appraisers.
Baldus is a member of the Federated Association of Garden Clubs, a state level association that hosts the Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimages all across the state, and a member of the Charles County Garden Club.
The award was administered by the National Society, DAR and is considered one of the most prestigious awards given of its kind, according to the press release.
In addition to being a local award recipient, the National Society, DAR named Baldus as the third highest winner in Maryland.
