MetCom to meet Thursday

The St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission will be meeting on Thursday, May 14, at 1 p.m. at the Larry K. Petty Building in Hollywood. Agenda items include: Facilities plan approval, contract award approvals for streetscape construction, Forest Run force main relocation, Buck Hewitt Road sewer project and length of service award for Eugene Thompson.

Solid waste meeting rescheduled

The solid waste advisory committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, has been changed to Wednesday, May 20. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the department of public works and transportation conference room at 44825 St. Andrew's Church Road in California.

Airport advisory meeting canceled

The airport advisory committee meeting scheduled for Monday, May 25, has been canceled. The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, June 22, at 6 p.m. at the St. Mary's County Regional Airport Terminal Building, 44200 Airport Road in Hollywood.

Summer camp registration open

Registration for this year's summer camps with the department of recreation and parks is now under way and will remain open as long as space is available. Summer day camps include TREK (teaching, reaching, enriching kids) camps for 6- to 10-year-olds, PTO (preteen only) camps for 11-12 year olds, PLAY (positive learning atmosphere for youth) camps for 3- to 5-year-olds, New Horizons Camp for children with disabilities, Camp Inspire for children and young adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and new Specialty Camps including arts and camps, Elms Beach Camp, Youth Fitness, Let's Play and Silly Science. Summer day camps begin the week of June 22 and will run for one week sessions through Aug. 14. Camp Inspire Camp begins the week of July 6 for ages 5-10 and July 13 for ages 11-17.

Summer sports camps include baseball, softball, basketball, cheerleading, lacrosse, football, field hockey, tennis and soccer instructional camps.

Registration forms can be obtained by visiting the recreation and parks main office, 23150 Leonard Hall Drive, Patuxent Building in Leonardtown, or by calling 301-475-4200, ext. 1800, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Forms may be downloaded from the Web site www.co.saint-marys.md.us/recreate/Forms/FormI.pdf and delivered or faxed to the office at 301-475-4108.

County welcome center open daily

The St. Mary's County Welcome Center on southbound Route 5 in Charlotte Hall is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The daily operation will continue until Oct. 31. The center's trained staff can provide information on accommodations and destinations and answer questions. For more information call the center at 301-884-7059.
