Sheriff’s deputies and witnesses to an early evening robbery at Solomons Coin Laundry in Lusby worked together last Saturday to locate the suspect, who allegedly used a shotgun to demand money and then fled in a vehicle.
A Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputy located, arrested and charged 50-year-old Michael Duane Rogers of Lusby on several counts related to the incident a short time after the robbery that occurred around 6:30 p.m., according to a press release.
Just after the robbery, an employee yelled that he was being robbed. As the suspect was fleeing the establishment, witnesses saw the vehicle, and described it as a gray pick-up truck operated by a black male, a sheriff’s office press release stated.
While traveling south on Route 4 near Flag Ponds Park, Sgt. Kenneth Gregory heard the broadcast and saw a vehicle matching the description, but while turning around he lost sight of the vehicle, then located it and stopped it minutes later, reports state.
It was then determined to be driven by a different person than when it was first seen by Gregory, the report stated.
An interview with the driver revealed that the vehicle was driven by Rogers during the time of the robbery, and Rogers was found at his residence and was transported to Solomons Coin Laundry where he was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed him, according to the report.
Rogers was placed under arrest and transported to the sheriff’s office where he was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, theft under $100 and carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure, reports state.
Rogers is currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center without bond.
