Friday, May 15, 2009

According to the Calvert County public school system Web site, parent volunteer James Carroll of Prince Frederick has advanced to become one of five semi-finalists for the Second Annual 2009 Comcast Parent Involvement Matters Award for which he was one of 24 finalists.

As reported in the April 15 edition of The Calvert Recorder, Carroll has been particularly active in the Science Technology Engineering Math, or STEM, programs at both Barstow Elementary School and Calvert Middle School where his daughters Erin, 10, and Amanda, 14, attend. Carroll, an engineer, coaches Lego League teams at both schools.

He was initially nominated by Calvert Middle School teacher Karin Stewart and Barstow Elementary School teacher Kelli Short. The award is co-sponsored by Comcast and the Maryland State Department of Education.
