The Hornets traveled to the Prince George’s County-based school on Tuesday for a 3A South region quarterfinal matchup and run-ruled the Lions in five innings.
The Hornets were led by starting pitcher Courtney Stewart, who threw five no-hit innings while striking out nine. Stewart faced only 17 batters, two more than the minimum.
Offensively, the Hornets were led by center fielder Joselynn Stewart, who finished 3 for 3 with two runs scored, and freshman Kenya Austin, who finished 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.
The Hornets finished with 12 hits in the game, as eight of Great Mills’ nine batters had at least one hit and seven of nine scored at least one run.
The Hornets season ended Wednesday with an 8-0 loss to La Plata in the semifinals.
