Door run-rules Waldorf, downs Bumpy Oak

The St. Mary’s Door defeated Waldorf on May 3, 12-2, in a seven-inning run-rule victory, and Bumpy Oak on May 4, 1-0, on a game-winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth in Coors Charles-St. Mary’s Baseball League action.
Ryan D’Antuono pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout for the victory against Bumpy Oak. He walked four and struck out 10.
In the bottom of the ninth, pinch hitter Jim Tanavage provided the only run needed on a single to give the Door the win.
Catcher Drew Willard was the only St. Mary’s hitter with multiple hits, going 2 for 4. The Door (4-2) needed just five hits in the game for the win.
In a makeup game with Waldorf, St. Mary’s batted around in the sixth inning and scored eight runs to put the game away.
The Door led 4-2 before the frame began and 13 hitters came up to the plate to help extend the advantage.
They only needed four hits to plate the eight runs, keyed by a triple from left fielder Steve Zumpano and a two-RBI single from designated hitter Joe Drury.
Greg Conden went the distance for St. Mary’s, allowing just two runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out nine.
The Door, who were helped out by nine Waldorf walks. They needed just six hits to score the 12 runs.
First baseman Chris D’Antuono drilled a two-run home run in the third and scored two runs in the win.
