Short named All-American
Brandon Short, a Chopticon High School graduate from Mechanicsville, was recently to the NJCAA preseason All-American team as a member of the St. John’s River Community College baseball team.
If Short makes the All-American list at the end of the season, he will become the second player in the team’s history to do so — joining Howie Kendrick, now an infielder for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim —Êand the fifth athlete at the school.
Demers, Young putting Lynchburg track on the map
Brandon Demers, a Leonardtown High School graduate from Leonardtown) is a freshman runner on the Lynchburg College men’s outdoor track team, coached by Dr. Jack M. Toms in his 30th year. Demers, a freshman runner, has contributed to Lynchburg being currently ranked in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs.
James Young, a Chopticon High School graduate from Mechanicsville, currently ranks in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters as well in the 110 hurdles as a freshman runner and hurdler.
Olson named to all-conference team
Three Pfeiffer men’s lacrosse players were named all-conference Carolinas in a vote by the league’s head coaches.ÊAmong them was attacker Chad Olsen, a St. Mary’s Ryken High School graduate from Great Mills.
Olsen was named to the second team after a strong year in which he was the second-leading scorer for the Falcons. He scored 16 goals and added eight assists for 24 points.
