Northern 19, Potomac 0(5 inn.); Northern 14, Largo 0
Nathan Orlandi, Ronnie Plew and Danny Breen combined for a no-hitter as the Patriots crushed visiting Potomac in the first round of the 3A South region playoffs Tuesday.
Orlandi struck out all nine batters he faced, while Milliken (three strikeouts) and Plew (two) each tossed one inning.
Tyler Walton had a two-run triple, while Jarele Cannon added a bases-clearing double. Breen added an RBI triple.
Sixth-seeded Northern (9-12) defeated Largo Wednesday. It faced Westlake yesterday in the regional semifinals, too late to be included in this edition, with the winner moving on to Friday’s scheduled regional championship game.
North Point 4, Patuxent 3
The host Eagles pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to bring Patuxent’s season to an end in the first round of the 2A South regional playoffs Tuesday.
Patuxent (7-12) received a complete-game effort from Donnie Holtzclaw. Chris Deinert had a two-run single, while Mike Swearingen added a single and a double.

Patuxent 8, Marriott’s Ridge 2
Laurel Frederick tossed a complete game three-hitter to power the host Panthers to an 8-2 rout over the Mustangs in the first round of the 2A South regional playoffs Tuesday.
Patuxent (6-11) defeated top-seeded Gwynn Park, 5-0, Wednesday and tackled host McDonough, too late to be included in this edition, with the winner moving on to Friday’s scheduled regional championship game.
Frederick struck out eight and issued a pair of walks.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the second when Frederick and Shelby Buckler each reached on a fielder’s choice. Frederick later scored on an overthrow and courtesy runner Jolene Lorenson also crossed the plate to give Patuxent a 2-0 lead.
Patuxent added three more in the third on a two-run single by Jessica Mindick and an RBI double by Samantha Millar.
In the fifth, Mindick reached on an error and scored on Millar’s two-base hit. Millar scored on a single by Frederick, who added the third run of the inning on a hit by Heather Monk.
Calverton 20, WCA 18
Calverton split its final two games of the season last week to finish in a tie with Riverdale Baptist for league champions.
Against Washington Christian, host Calverton (5-2, 4-0 MISAL) pulled a seven-run lead into the final inning and hung on to beat the Wildcats, 20-18, on May 7.
The Wildcats pushed across five runs in the seventh and loaded the bases but Jenna Carroll struck out the final batter.
Calverton, which earned the second seed in the Maryland Independent Schools Athletic League playoffs on a coin flip defeated Jericho Christian Academy yesterday, too late to be included in this edition.
