Ashley Dorr and the Huntingtown Hurricanes softball team fell short of its fourth consecutive bid for a state championship. Losing is never easy, especially when the program is accustomed to winning.

I would like to thank her for taking the time every week to write for the Athlete Diary. She has been a real pleasure to work with.

JAMES A. McCRAY III

Hello again,

Well we had a very hard loss against Northern on Wednesday. It was a tough game, but we just didn’t come out on top.

Northern is a very good team, and the only thing I can say is that we lost to a team that should win states. Northern has always been seen as a weak team, but I can tell you that Northern is a very strong, well-rounded team.

My season is over, it isn’t the best feeling, but I know this year the team worked our harder than ever.

Jordon DeGennaro, Haley Stueckler, and I have been to states three years, and I think we took it the hardest. We really wanted our fourth [state title] win to end our senior year.

We have done a lot and have shown that we are just as good as we were last year. This year’s team was an all-around strong team.

We had a great season, and it is disappointing to see it end. The past four years have been amazing, and I am so glad I was able to be a part of a team that no one thought would go anywhere our first year.

Since this is my last article I would like to say thank you to James McCray and The Calvert Recorder for letting me do this.

I enjoyed it very much, and I am sad to see it end. Also a thank you to my coaches, [head coach Mike] Johnson, Seger, and Norton.

You guys have put up with me for four years. Thank you for everything you guys have done. It is appreciated.

Last, but not least, my team. You girls have done a lot, and I’m going to miss you guys next year. Play hard, and always keep your head up.
