Two men were indicted earlier this month on charges of stabbing another man eight times during a drug-related argument at a Waldorf apartment complex, according to court documents and police.
The 24-year-old victim suffered two stab wounds to his chest and one that damaged an artery during the April 27 fight, according to court records.
Authorities arrived at the 12000 block of Ell Lane at about 11:32 p.m., and the victim was flown to a trauma center by a Maryland State Police medevac helicopter.
Based on information from the victim and witnesses, police identified Charles McDaniel Brooks, 23, of Brandywine and Clifton Jerome Goldring, 23, of Waldorf as the assailants, court reports state.
Police arrested Goldring on May 3, and, after receiving a tip, they arrested Brooks on May 6 at a Bryantown home in the 5900 block of Roosevelt Place.
Both men face charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.
A man identifying himself as Brooks' father said the charges "will not stick and cannot stick."
The man, who hung up the phone when asked to provide a name, said his son was defending himself against an attempted robbery during the alleged assault.
"[Brooks] is a hell of a person and a good worker. … He's very well-mannered, and I don't just say that because I'm his father, I say that because that's how I raised him," said the man.
Court documents indicate that Brooks worked as a laborer and that Goldring was a stocker at a Charlotte Hall store.
The arraignments for Brooks and Goldring are set for June 17, according to court records.
Brooks is being held on a $500,000 bond, and Goldring is being held on a $100,000 bond.
