Reported pipe bomb yields burning toy

A report of a possible pipe bomb in the 8500 block of Poorhouse Road in Marbury called firefighters to the location at 11:51 p.m. May 24.
However, once on the scene, Maryland State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad investigators realized that a child’s motorized car had been intentionally set on fire in the middle of the road.
No explosives were found at the scene.
About $500 in damage was reported by deputy state fire marshals, and no one was hurt.
Five firefighters extinguished the blaze which was reported by a passerby.
Hughesville homedamaged in fire
An accidental fire at a Hughesville home at 9:46 p.m. May 24 caused about $15,000 in damage to a pool house⁄garage in the 14300 block of Burnt Store Road.
The fire started inside a 50-gallon plastic trash can that was inside the garage. It took 18 firefighters from the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department about five minutes to control the blaze.
No one was injured.
Deputy State Fire Marshal Don Brenneman investigated.
