A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death Wednesday night by a masked man who attacked him as he walked through a Waldorf neighborhood, according to police.
Investigators haven't determined a motive for the assault on Antonio McVicker of Waldorf, but believe he was intentionally targeted, said Diane Richardson, Charles County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
"It appears to be a direct attack on the victim," she said.
McVicker was walking with another 17-year-old boy near Dorset Drive and Jubilee Way when the man approached them, Richardson said. The assailant, who was wearing dark clothing and whose face was partially covered, spoke to the victim, possibly just to get his attention, Richardson said, adding that she couldn't further specify what words were exchanged.
The man then stabbed McVicker in the abdomen and ran away, according to police. Some witnesses said the attacker drove away in a white vehicle.
McVicker ran down the road a short distance, but collapsed in the 1000 block of Jubilee Way. Police responded to the scene at about 9:29 p.m., Richardson said.
McVicker was transported to Civista Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The 17-year-old boy who was walking with McVicker wasn't injured in the attack, Richardson said.
