We want to thank everyone for attending the meeting on the St Inigoes Creek/St Mary's River Oyster Project on May 15 at the Lexington Park library. St Mary's River Watershed Association and Coastal Conservation Association, as partners with other environmental/educational groups, will raise oyster gardens to be placed on a sanctuary oyster bar when they mature. The St Mary's River Watershed Association will apply for a grant to allow waterfront home owners to raise oysters in cages for free. You can purchase a float with oyster spat and get the income tax credit now.
The link for the tax credit is http://individuals.marylandtaxes.com/incometax/gtpitc/aquaculture.asp. Links for two vendors that sell floats are: Johnny Oyster Seed: http://theoysterguy.googlepages.com/home; and Circle C Oyster Ranch: www.oysterranching.com/
Oyster numbers have plummeted in the bay, prompting the CCA Maryland Chapter to launch a pilot project. Read and learn what you can do to help save the bay … one oyster at a time. E-mail Web sites for future meetings www.SMRWA.org and www.ccamd.org.
