A June 4 lightning strike started a small fire in the attic of a home on Hibiscus Court in La Plata, causing an estimated $15,000 in damage, according to a report from the state fire marshal’s office.

A neighbor spotted the fire and called authorities at about 9:41 p.m.

Thirty-three firefighters from the La Plata, Waldorf and Bel Alton volunteer fire departments fought the blaze at the two-story townhouse, controlling it within five minutes, according to Deputy State Fire Marshal John Tennyson’s report.
