Brunger wins engineering scholarship from Northrop Grumman

Adrienne Brunger, a home school student, was the St. Mary's County winner of the Northrop Grumman engineering scholarship award. One student from each Maryland school system will receive $10,000 in the annual Engineering Scholars Competition.

In the past seven years, Northrop Grumman has given away nearly $1.74 million in engineering scholarships which are intended to motivate some of Maryland's best and brightest students to pursue engineering-related careers.

Wood named national scholar

The National Society of High School Scholars announced that Chopticon High School student Jordan R. Wood of Mechanicsville was selected for membership. The 15-year-old will be entering her junior year this fall.

The Atlanta-based society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved academic excellence. Wood is also a member of Chopticon's soccer and softball teams, and was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society two years ago at Margaret Brent Middle School.

She is the daughter of Monty and Jeannette Wood, both Chopticon High School graduates who were inducted into the National Honor Society during their time at the school in the 1980s.
