Same-day servicefor birth certificatesis now available
For those born in St. Mary’s after 1940, a copy of their birth certificate is available at the health department. Same-day service is available. Copies may be requested between 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. and the fee is $20 per certificate.
Those eligible for same-day, walk-in service are those asking for their own certificate, parent or guardian of the person, a representative of the person, parent or guardian certified by a notary public. A valid, unexpired, government-issued photo identification is required, but if that is not available two other forms of identification will do. Call 301-475-4427 for more information.
Land donated for affordable housing
Patuxent Habitat for Humanity received five building lots on nine acres from St. Mary’s government for the construction of five new homes off Forest Park Road near Route 235, south of Patuxent River Naval Air Station.
Patuxent Habitat for Humanity built nine homes in Calvert and St. Mary’s since its inception in 2003. For more information, log on to www.patuxenthabitat.org.
An application orientation workshop for prospective home owners is planned for Saturday, June 21, at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Valley Lee from 10 a.m. to noon. Call the office at 301-863-6227 for more information and to get a list of the items needed for the workshop. The organization also operates a ReStore to raise funds to support the building of homes. It is located at 21768 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park. Citizens are encouraged to shop at the ReStore and to donate home furnishings and building materials items.
Trash center hoursin effect year round
The hours at the county’s six trash convenience centers will be fixed throughout the whole year, no longer based on winter or summer. The hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The convenience centers accept household trash, limit of four 35-gallon containers per trip, and recyclable items.
