Pictured are Diane Warren, LifeStyles' center director; Ray Lenhart, McDonough High School's student service learning teacher, students Stephen Hilson, Sydney Atchison, Madelyn Mazzeo, Nick Delacruz and Ariel Thomas and Brenda Nussberger, administrative assistant for LifeStyles.

Maurice J. McDonough High School students presented a $6,900 check to LifeStyles of Maryland on June 18, to benefit Charles County's homeless population.

The money was raised through a fundraising walk at the school on May 13.

Arranged by students completing their service-learning graduation requirement, the idea was sparked following a presentation by a May 6 presentation by LifeStyles staff at the school during which information was given about the organization and how the "Safe Nights" and other homeless-centered programs impacts the lives of many, from young to old.

Students also had to write reflective essays about homelessness.
