Concerts
The Air National Guard Band — The band will perform in concert from 5:30-7:30 p.m. July 2 on the square in Leonardtown. The program will feature patriotic music, classical, swing favorites, show tunes and other selections considered the gold standard of the concert band’s repertoire. The final portion of the program will begin with a musical tribute honoring America’s servicemen and women, plus ‘‘Hymn to the Fallen,” a ballad set to the words of Colin Powell.
Uncle Pete with Kids — The concert for children, according to a press release, involves humor, dancing, moving, self-expression and audience participation. The free June 30 events will be at 10 a.m. at White Marsh Elementary School, 29090 Thompson Corner Road, Mechanicsville, 12:30 p.m. at Leonard Hall Recreation Center, 23145 Leonard Hall Drive, Leonardtown and 3 p.m. at Lexington Park library, 21677 FDR Blvd., Lexington Park. Theater
Call for ShortStack submissions — Accokeek Creek Theatre will take submissions of unpublished short works (with a run-time less than 30 minutes) that are set in a standard American diner for its annual ShortStack series through July 23. The selected plays will receive readings at The Kennedy Center’s Page-to-Stage Festival of new plays over Labor Day weekend and will be performed in a diner in Maryland. Annmarie Garden arts building — ‘‘Re.action” continues through Aug. 31. An exploration of movement, the interactive exhibition was juried by Mark Ward, director of the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. Learn about Colonial life — St. Ignatius Church at Chapel Point will host an educational event about Colonial life in Charles County from 2-6 p.m. June 29.
