Just a small accolade to Judge John Slade before the deserved litanies of gratitudes and homages come pouring in.
Funny how the times change. Many years (and I mean many years) ago my wife and I went to John Slade for advice on some trivial legal matter and came to the same realization that this guy was a real and caring person … for an attorney.
We did not socialize, nor did we communicate after the meeting. However, my wife, being a county girl, was connected to John via county girlfriends, imagine that.
Our youngest son was into baseball, imagine that. And summer outings would take us up to Camden Yards to do a double-header weekend. When walking down the aisles to find our seats, there were John and his sons. The little guys were all aglow as our son was, and it was one of those "Hey, how cool is this that we meet in Baltimore?" In fact, our family met on several occasions in the same rows.
Two years ago I had an unfortunate situation on the road., and needed a lawyer. I was advised to seek an attorney by the name of Dan Slade. When we met I asked, "Your dad is John?" Yes. OK, you must be good be cause you like the O's, Yeah … but? We met in Camden Yards many a year ago.
I explained my traffic accident to Dan and finished with "my family is laughing. They call me Mr. Turtle and just can't believe I was involved in anything over 20 miles per hour."
Dan said, "You know, we call Dad Mr.Turtle too!"
Here's to you Mr. Turtle. Job well done.
