Knights of Columbus Archbishop Neale Council 2279 recognized the late Tonya Mallard, a volunteer emergency medical technician with Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department, who was one of four people killed in the Sept. 27, 2008, medevac helicopter crash.
Her dedication and ultimate sacrifice to serving her community was recognized when Knights of Columbus Maryland State Council named her Emergency Technician of the Year during the organization's annual founder's day Mass and award dinner in March. Mallard was nominated by Curtis Birley, a member of the Council 2279. Mallard's husband, Ken, received the award in honor of his wife.
