Floyd Allen Prout, 81, Washington, D.C.

Floyd Allen Prout, 81, of Washington, D.C., died June 16, 2009, at the Veterans Hospital, Washington, D.C.

Born July 15, 1927, in Mt. Victoria, he was the son of the late James and the late Pearl Prout.

He was educated in the Charles County school system, graduating from Bel Alton High School in 1945.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1946, and his tour of duty took him to Japan. He received an honorable discharge in 1947.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and helping his parents on the farm.

Later he relocated to Washington, D.C., and began his career in the Prince George's County public school system as a maintenance engineer. He retired after 28 years of dedicated service at Chillum Elementary School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Nannie Frazier, Agnes Givens, William, James Jr., Robert and Louis Prout; and daughter-in-law, Diane Prout.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rose; son, Melvin Prout of Indian Head; grandsons, Derico and his wife, Randi and Brian Prout; stepdaughter, Lois Fitzgerald; stepson, Clarence Jones; brother Thomas and his wife, Ellen of La Plata; sisters, Shirley Brown and Dorothy Hill of Washington, D.C.; special niece, June Wills of La Plata; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews; and other relatives.

A service was held June 24 at Fort Lincoln Funeral Chapel, Brentwood. Burial with full military honors took place at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
