Mildred Louise Thomas Slye, 82, Newburg

Mildred Louise Thomas Slye, 82, of Newburg died June 26, 2009, at the Genesis Eldercare Center, La Plata.

"Mil," as she was called, was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses for 33 years. She enjoyed listening to oldies and jazz. She also enjoyed the outdoors and played games like volleyball and kickball when the weather permitted. She was passionate about sharing her faith in door-to-door ministry. She loved to laugh. She also loved children and spending time with family and friends.

Born May 5, 1927, in Tompkinsville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Thomas and the late Carrie Moore Thomas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Gilbert Slye; son, James Maurice Slye; and four brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Alease; sister, Mary K. Chisley; brothers, William Thomas, Joseph Thomas, Wallace Thomas, and Charles Thomas; sisters-in-law, Margaret Johnson, Gladys Thomas, and Viola Thomas; brothers-in-law, John Chisley, Richard Edelen and Gustine Edelen; and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon July 4 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, La Plata.

Arrangements are being handled by Thornton Funeral Home, Pomonkey.
