A 39-year-old Oxon Hill man entered a guilty plea Thursday to identity theft and theft scheme for using stolen credit cards and gift cards to buy nearly $2,600 worth of department store merchandise.
Robert Giles Reese was arrested after a Washington, D.C., police officer chased him down on the suspicion he was driving a stolen vehicle, Charles County Assistant State’s Attorney Blayne Miley told the court.
Upon investigation, the officer found Reese had numerous credit cards, gift cards, shopping bags and identification cards, Miley said.
The credit cards belonged to a woman who said her purse was picked, according to Miley. Records at Target and JCPenney show that five transactions totaling about $2,600 were made using the stolen cards, Miley told the court.
Reese is scheduled for sentencing Sept. 4.
