Registration for prekindergarten and kindergarten students continues at all Charles County public elementary schools.
To enter prekindergarten for the 2008-09 school year, students must be 4 by Sept. 1. To be eligible for kindergarten for the 2008-09 school year, students must be 5 by Sept. 1.
Registration for in-county students is conducted at the individual elementary schools. Call the student services department at 301-934-7326 to find out what school your child is zoned for or if you want to register a child who is moving to the area.
All children entering the public schools must have the following information:
Proof of a physical examination by a physician or a certified practitioner.
Proof of required immunizations against communicable diseases (Department of Health and Mental Hygiene 896 forms showing the required immunizations are available at all schools).
Birth certificate or acceptable proof of birth. If the child was born in Maryland, a copy of his or her birth certificate can be purchased from the health department at 301-609-6900.
Two proofs of residency: deed, lease, rental agreement, current utility or telephone bill with name and address, a ratified purchase contract, current car registration card, county tax records, recent car or property insurance bill, paycheck stub with address, property title record, written documentation of home visit by a pupil personnel worker, court document with home address, recent social security check with address or a letter from a local postmaster for all addresses with a post office box number on post office stationary.
