The La Plata Planning Commission recommended Tuesday that the La Plata Town Council approve a request by Johel Limited Partnership and FCD-Development LLC to rezone about 14 acres near the corner of U.S. 301 and Rosewick Road to the town’s commercial highway zoning classification if the land is annexed into the town.
The land is now owned by Van and John Mitchell and their sister, Cherry Stackhouse and is occupied by Mitchell Supply Inc. The Mitchells want to sell the land to the Faison development company to be included in the La Plata Crossing complex across Rosewick Road from the Rosewick Crossing shopping center that is anchored by a Giant food store and Lowe’s home improvement center.
The land must be rezoned to the town’s commercial highway classification if it is annexed into the town, according to town planners.
The town council is set to hold a public hearing on the annexation request at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the town hall on Queen Anne Street. If the annexation is approved, the council will then act on the rezoning request.
The La Plata Crossing complex will contain two 50,000 square-foot office buildings and 50,000 square feet of retail space that will be occupied by a department store, restaurant and several small shops, said Roger Wright, Faison’s managing director of retail development.
