A public informational meeting about a project to replace Mechanicsville Road Bridge is scheduled for Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m. at the Charlotte Hall library at the corner of Route 6 and Route 5 in Charlotte Hall.
The bridge replacement is a cooperative project between the St. Mary's County government and the Maryland State Highway Administration.
The project is budgeted at $1,246,000 and is to be paid for with federal stimulus funds.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides appropriations for job preservation and creation, infrastructure investment, energy efficiency and science, assistance to the unemployed, and state and local fiscal stabilization.
The Mechanicsville Road project will include removal and replacement of the deteriorated culverts crossing the roadway at Chaptico Creek.
The culverts will be replaced with cast in place and prefabricated aluminum box culvert systems. Installation of these improvements, accompanied with horizontal and vertical alignment of the roadway, is intended to facilitate local and commuter traffic traveling Mechanicsville Road.
While work on the project is under way, residents may experience roadway lane closures resulting in temporary detours and construction noise.
Interested persons are invited to attend the informational meeting to present comments and suggestions. For information call the county department of public works and transportation at 301-863-8400.
