A guilty plea by Michael Credeur, 19, of Prince Frederick for making false statements to police in the murder investigation of Rodney ‘‘Rudy” Gray, 20, of St. Leonard was accepted in the Calvert County Circuit Court by Judge Marjorie Clagett on July 8.
On the night of the murder on Sept. 25, 2007, Credeur told investigators that the knife used to stab Gray was thrown out of a vehicle by Christopher Whisman and could be found in a wooded area on Independence Drive in St. Leonard. Credeur later admitted that he threw the knife out of the vehicle on Ivory Lane, according to charging documents.
Charges of hindering and accessory-after-the-fact were dropped with Credeur’s guilty plea, and Clagett sentenced and then suspended a six month sentence. She also gave Credeur a year of supervised probation, 120 hours of community service and payment of court costs.
During Whisman’s four-day trial, beginning on May 27, the jury learned that Credeur, his friend, was the deciding factor for Whisman in telling the truth to investigators; investigators allowed Whisman to call Credeur while he was being held for questioning, according to deputies who testified at the trial.
A jury found Whisman guilty of manslaughter on June 3.
Whisman is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 25 at 1 p.m.
