A Clements man was jailed last week to await sentencing on his guilty plea to the possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, from the recovery by police of a bag holding about three ounces of the drug.
Maryland State Police arrested John Arthur Duckett, 20, in May 2007 on court papers alleging he ran from a Lincoln sedan as the law officers pursued it in Lexington Park from Pegg Road to the parking lot of a gas station, where the car crashed into a parked vehicle.
State Trooper Bret McCartney chased and tackled Duckett, who had more than $3,700 in his pockets, according to charging documents. Two small plastic bags of marijuana were found in the Lincoln.
A police report states that Duckett initially was carrying a cooler bag when he got out of the car to run away, and that an area resident later reported finding the bag that held the cocaine and more than a quarter-pound of marijuana.
