The Charlotte Hall Veterans Home was the first stop for a benefit poker run held Aug. 11.

There were more than 100 participants who took on the 65-mile trip through the winding back roads of St. Mary’s, Charles and Prince George’s counties.
To enter, each rider donated $15 or $15 worth of merchandise from a wish list provided by the veterans home.
The home was the location of the first stop, where coffee and pastries were provided for the riders. Other stops included the Bel Alton Veterans of Foreign Wars post, Indian Head VFW and Clinton VFW. The ride ended at the Hughesville American Legion, which provided food to the riders.
The motorcycle club sponsored a total of $300 in cash prizes. The best hand won $150, the second-best hand won $75, the third-best hand won $50 and the lowest hand won $25. All winners donated part of their winnings back to the veterans home. There was also a 50⁄50 raffle, and the winner donated some of the winnings back to the home as well.
All cash received from the poker run will be used to fulfill as much of the veterans home’s wish list as possible, according to organizers of the poker run.
