A 13-year-old Charlotte Hall boy was charged Wednesday afternoon with a second-degree assault on his bus driver, St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputies report, at Margaret Brent Middle School.
The bus driver, 79-year-old Mary Lou Barber of Mechanicsville, did not require medical treatment after the 2:40 p.m. incident outside the school in Helen, sheriff’s Lt. Terry Black said.
The student, also charged with disrupting school operations, was taken into custody and later released to a parent to await further action by St. Mary’s juvenile services authorities.
‘‘He said he was mad at the bus driver because the bus driver told him to put the window up,” Black said. ‘‘He got mad at her and threw his school books at her, hitting her in the face and chest.”
The student got off the bus and was still at the school when sheriff’s deputy Brian J. Connelly arrived.
The bus driver eventually left the school with her other passengers.
‘‘She went on with her route,” Black said.
