Officials are still investigating a house fire Wednesday night in Bryans Road that killed a 62-year-old man.

County police and state fire marshals are investigating a Bryans Road home fire that killed a 62-year-old man Wednesday night, but have not yet determined what ignited the blaze.

A passerby called authorities around 10 p.m. about the fire at a one-story home in the 2100 block of Marshall Hall Road, according to a report.

Firefighters reported seeing flames coming through the front window and roof of the home.

The body of a man was discovered on the dining room floor, but his body was too burned to immediately identify him, according to authorities.

Deputy State Fire Marshal Joseph Zurolo said the man lived alone at the home. He added that an autopsy will try to confirm the man's identity and cause of death. According to online state land records, the home is owned by Daniel West.

Members of the Bryans Road, Potomac Heights, Marbury, Accokeek and Indian Head volunteer fire departments fought the blaze, which started in the home's living room, according to a report.

The home wasn't equipped with smoke alarms.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the fire.
