Candidate forums set

Candidates to represent St. Mary’s County in the Maryland Senate and the House of Delegates and to serve as sheriff for the next four years will answer questions at a forum on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Sen. Roy Dyson (D) and County Commission President Thomas F. McKay (R) have been invited to open the forum at 7 p.m. at Cole Cinema at the college. They are running for in Senate District 29. They will be followed by Del. John F. Wood Jr. (D) and Joe DiMarco (R), candidates for House of Delegates District 29A. Del. John Bohanan and Noel Temple ‘‘Tim” Wood will come next. They are candidates in District 29B. Next will be Del. Anthony O’Donnell (R) and Norma Powers (D) who are facing off for the District 29C.
Rounding out the evening will be the candidates for St. Mary’s County sheriff, David D. Zylak and Tim Cameron.
Each pair of candidates will answer questions for 30 minutes. The forum ends at 9:30 p.m.
The forum is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Democracy and the SlackWater Center at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, The Enterprise and the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce.
Following an overview from a moderator, candidates will each be allowed a two-minute introduction. This will be followed by questions from a panel comprised of St. Mary’s College professors Julie King and Zach Messitte, a reporter from The Enterprise, and a St. Mary’s College student. Candidates will get one minute to respond to each question as well as one minute to make a concluding statement.
A forum for candidates in the four contested races for St. Mary’s County commissioner will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the college’s Cole Cinema.
