RiverFest
The fourth annual celebration of the St. Mary's River will be held at Historic St. Mary's City from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 27.
"Nearly half of St. Mary's County residents live within the boundaries of the St. Mary's River watershed, but few realize they do," according to a press release. "RiverFest reconnects the community to the river and the outdoors through hands-on activities and speakers."
Ride on a local skipjack. Tong for oysters or go river seining. Paint a pumpkin or take a nature walk. Organizers encourage visitors to experience "the beauty of the river from land and water."
There will be live music by Indian Summer, The Dance Hall Ghost, Piney Point Playboys and Magpie.
In addition to various activities, participants will be able to learn about local organizations, experiments, developments and activities that impact the watersheds of the Chesapeake Bay.
Sponsored by St. Mary's River Watershed Association, RiverFest is free.
