State money approved for parkprojects in St. Mary’s

The Maryland Board of Public Works approved this week funds for several park projects across the state, including two in St. Mary’s County.

The county gets $425,000 for parks in Great Mills and Leonardtown.

At Chancellor’s Run Regional Park, $225,000 goes to replace old playground equipment.

The other $200,000 goes for the beginning of the Port of Leonardtown Park off McIntosh Run at Route 5 and 243.

Going green expo set for Oct. 8

A Going Green and Code Update Expo will be hosted by the St. Mary’s County Plumbing and Fuel Gas Board on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center. Home owners can gain valuable information on green development, green building techniques and sustainable practices to save money and resources. Information will include solar water heaters, boiler thermostats, high efficiency heaters, gas fireplaces, dual-flush and low-flow toilets, shower heads and faucets.
