Ethelene Louise ‘‘Shortie” Dorsey, 63, of Capitol Heights died Sept. 14, 2008, at Prince George’s Hospital in Cheverly after an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 16, 1945, in Calvert County to Carrie V. Johnson Taylor and the late James S. Dorsey.
She received her education in Calvert County public schools and was a 1963 graduate of W.S. Brooks High School in Prince Frederick. Upon graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C., and later to Capitol Heights.
As a young child, she attended Wards United Methodist Church and later served as a member of Immanuel’s Temple. In her later years as a Christian, she attended Church of God in Calvert County.
She married the late Edward Dorsey.
She was a kind, generous person and was always helping others and loved to make friends. She had a great love for her family. She enjoyed decorating, listening to gospel music, visiting senior citizens, cooking, traveling and fine food. During her career, she was an administrative assistant in the retail industry for more than 40 years.
In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, James Taylor; brother, James Dorsey Jr.; and uncles, James and Walter Johnson and James S. Hawkins.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her sisters, Delores Reynolds and her husband Levi and Cathy McKnight; brothers, Frank and his wife Beatrice and Sterling Taylor; nieces, Angela, Renee, April, Kimberly, Nekole, Jathia and Keisha; nephews, Sheldon and his wife Angel and Devon; great-nephew, Maxwell James Taylor; aunts, Elizabeth Hawkins, Catherine Johnson, Mary Evans and Virginia Brashears; cousin, Peggy Hawkins; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sept. 19 at St. Edmond’s United Methodist Church in Chesapeake Beach.
The Rev. Ronald Hawkins officiated.
Interment was held at Ernestine Jones Cemetery in Chesapeake Beach.
Pallbearers were George Hawkins, Stacy White, Gregory Booze, Corey Jones, Timothy Hawkins and Glenn Creek.
