A head-on collision between a sewage truck and a Ford Escape on Thursday injured a woman and her 2-year-old daughter, both of whom were flown from the Waldorf accident scene, according to police.
The operator of the sewage truck, Philip Andrew Dirolf, 68, of Newburg will be charged with failure to drive to the right of center, according to Diane Richardson, spokeswoman for the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
The sewage truck was reportedly traveling west in the 4300 block of Dr. Samuel Mudd Road when for unknown reasons, it crossed over the double yellow line, Richardson said. The truck then struck a sport utility vehicle driven by a 25-year-old Waldorf woman, whose young daughter was also in the Ford.
Police responded to the wreck at about 10 a.m.
Both the woman and the toddler appear to have suffered injuries that are not life-threatening, although both were buckled into the SUV during the accident, Richardson said.
They were flown to an area hospital.
Dirolf, who is employed by Earnshaw Brothers, a Bryantown-based septic services company, suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to Richardson.
