The Southern Maryland Business Network recently presented a check to Jacqui Hamilton, program manager for Catholic Community Services’ Angel’s Watch Regional Shelter in Hughesville.

Through a series of fundraisers, including a bowl-a-thon and basket bingo, SMBN has collected more than $12,680 for the group this year. The shelter provides emergency shelter, case management and family services for women and children, along with a transitional shelter program.

SMBN is an independent, nonprofit, self-directed organization. Members aim to be a ‘‘virtual sales force” for other members of the group by exchanging business referrals and developing new business relationships, according to a press release. The network is promoted through direct contact, chamber of commerce events, marketing materials, press releases, a community calendar and a Web site.

Meetings are held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays at Southwinds Adult Active Community off Billingsley Road in White Plains. For more information, go to www.smbn.org or call Irene Cusack at Countrywide Home Loans at 301-893-9001.
