Saturday, Sept. 19, was a beautiful, almost autumn day that provided a wonderful opportunity for the public to attend the Healthy Family Fun Fair at the Patuxent Health Center in Prince Frederick.

Whether it was playing on the obstacle course, in the game bus, or listening to "The Rockin' Elvis," young and old had the chance to enjoy themselves while learning about healthy lifestyles and obtaining information regarding the Calvert Healthcare Solutions medical access program.

On behalf of Calvert Healthcare Solutions (CHS) Board of Directors, I would like to thank CHS and Calvert Memorial Hospital staff for their contribution to the day's activities.

A very special thank you goes out to the Hoyle, Fredge and Shaw families and many youth volunteers for their help. This event would not have been successful without their assistance.

Thanks also are due for World Gym, Jim "Rockin' Elvis" Godbold, Turnabout Cafe in Owings, Fantasy World Entertainment and Games2U.

Estimates indicate that there are approximately 1,100 Calvert County residents ages 19 to 64 years without health insurance who are not eligible for medical assistance or Medicare.

Calvert Healthcare Solutions provides eligible participants access to a network of primary and limited specialty doctors.

Health risk assessments are provided that help identify risk factors that may eventually lead to disease conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease that worsen if not treated.

Specialty programs are being developed that will provide for increased services.

Calvert Healthcare Solutions also provides for 50 percent cost-sharing of generic medication purchases.

For more information or to determine eligibility, please contact Calvert Healthcare Solutions at 443-550-6927 or through e-mail at calverthcs@comcast.net.

Applications can also be printed off the Internet at calverthealthcare.org.

CHS is a nonprofit organization dependent on corporate and individual donations.

Contributions are appreciated and gratefully accepted.

W. Michael Shaw, Prince Frederick
