Owings appointed to commission

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners unanimously appointed George W. Owings III to the Calvert County Fire and Rescue Commission.
Owings, a Democrat, represented central and northern Calvert in the Maryland State House of Delegates from 1988 to 2004, surrendering his seat to become Maryland Secretary of Veterans Affairs in 2004.
He became Acting Secretary in early 2007, leaving the post altogether in May of last year.
