Members of Boy Scout Troop 417 and Cub Scout Pack 417 worked last year to collect food.

The Boy Scouts, Venturers and Cub Scouts in the Zekiah District will be collecting food during the first two weeks of November for those in need.

Look for a bag that will be left on doorsteps Nov. 7.

The bags are left by area Boy Scout troops for its annual Scouting for Food drive.

Last year, almost 600 Scouts and adults spent 1,461 hours walking through communities, collecting 28,091 pounds of food.

This food was distributed to 26 pantries in Charles County and still the pantries were empty by the end of the year.

"The need is greater than ever before and we are hoping, with the help of those who can, to provide even more assistance this year," said Bob Davidson, a Boy Scout Troop 417 leader in a press release.

Residents will be able to do this in several ways: look for bags that will be distributed in most larger communities on Nov. 7 — fill the bag and leave it out for pick up on Nov. 14.

Since there are so many homes and communities in Charles Country, Scouts will not be able to visit all of them.

For those who do not receive a bag but who wish to still make a donation, on Nov. 14, there will be two drop off points.

They are at the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department at 13290 Main Avenue in Cobb Island and the Charles County MCIU (the EMS station) at 10700 Billingsley Road in Waldorf, across the street from CVS Pharmacy.

"Hunger is unconscionable in this country, but even more so during the holidays," Davidson said in the release. To learn more about the annual food drive, go to www.scoutingforfood.net.
