The Charles County Literacy Council announced that it has trained 13 new literacy volunteer tutors.
The training workshop was held in October and chaired by Nicole Bennett. Tutors are trained to teach literacy, including reading, writing, English as a Second Language and basic mathematics to adults in Charles County who need competency in these areas.
The newly trained tutors enjoyed the workshop and at the conclusion, provided written feedback to the council, according to a press release from the council.
"Everyone on the board and presenting were happy and positive. Everyone involved seems to really love this cause," Marcel Jewell wrote in her comments. "Thank you for making three nights so much fun."
Tutor workshops are held twice yearly over a three-night period for a total of nine hours.
The literacy council, a not-for-profit organization, provides free community-based one-on-one adult literacy tutoring. For more information, call Marlene Cleaveland, program coordinator, at 301-870-5974.
