Commissioners to hold retreat Tuesday, Nov. 11 Veterans Day.County offices closed. Wednesday, Nov. 12 9 a.m. County commissioners/county administrator retreat at Maxwell Hall in Benedict. All or a portion of this retreat may be closed. The retreat will be conducted to continue to build an effective and cohesive leadership team that will move leadership to the county commissioners' goals and objectives. The retreat will solely concern the executive function of the executive branch of county government and the legal framework of the operation of the county commissioners as the chief executive body and the chief legislative body of county government. The retreat will not include matters constituting the legislative, quasi-legislative and advisory functions of county government, except to receive legal advice on specific legal matters relating to those governmental functions.

Monday, Nov. 10

Fourth and Fifth Districts Democratic Club of Charles County will meet Nov. 10 at Shymansky's Restaurant, Cobb Island. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Speaker will be Del. Peter Murphy (D-Charles). Reservations are required and will be accepted through Nov. 7. Call Frank H. Tuesday, Nov. 11

La Plata Town Hall will be closed Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. For water and sewer emergencies, call 301-934-8421 and follow the prompts.

Charles County government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter will be closed Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. The county landfill, recycling center and composting facility in Waldorf and the Pisgah recycling center will be open. Curbside recycling service will not be affected. Thursday, Nov. 13

Charles County Board of Education member Jennifer S. Abell will hold a question-and-answer session for interested residents from 6-8:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at Unique Sports Academy, 109 Post Office Road, Waldorf. Call Abell at 301-659-4112 or e-mail abell4edu@verizon.net.

Tuesday, Nov. 18

La Plata Town Council and Charles County commissioners are scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Nov. 18 in the commissioners' meeting room in the county government building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata. Agenda items for the twice-yearly meeting include updates on a joint traffic study being conducted by the town and county and projected fire and rescue needs in La Plata because of the anticipated growth in town. Wednesday, Nov. 19

Maryland Transit Administration will hold a public hearing from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 19 to discuss proposed cuts because of a state budget shortfall to its 913 commuter bus service that runs from Waldorf to the Suitland Metrorail Station.
