Fourth and Fifth Districts Democratic Club of Charles County will meet Nov. 10 at Shymansky's Restaurant, Cobb Island. La Plata Town Hall will be closed Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. For water and sewer emergencies, call 301-934-8421 and follow the prompts.
Charles County government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter will be closed Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. The county landfill, recycling center and composting facility in Waldorf and the Pisgah recycling center will be open. Curbside recycling service will not be affected. La Plata Town Council and Charles County commissioners are scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Nov. 18 in the commissioners' meeting room in the county government building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata. Agenda items for the twice-yearly meeting include updates on a joint traffic study being conducted by the town and county and projected fire and rescue needs in La Plata because of the anticipated growth in town. Maryland Transit Administration will hold a public hearing from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 19 to discuss proposed cuts because of a state budget shortfall to its 913 commuter bus service that runs from Waldorf to the Suitland Metrorail Station.
