A Calvert County man was jailed Monday on a burglary charge in court papers alleging about a dozen sets of keys for residents' homes at the Lexington Park Active Adult Community were stolen from its office.
A woman told police that the suspect stayed overnight at her apartment at the residential facility off Pegg Road, court papers state, and she said he left her home and came back at least five times between Sunday evening and early Monday morning.
Before police left, the woman gave them a collection of keys she found in a shoe, and one she found sitting on a kitchen counter, according to court papers. An employee at the facility identified the keys as the ones missing from the storage room key box in her office.
Jeffrey G. Burch, 34, of Lusby was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bond on a charge of second-degree burglary through the investigation by St. Mary's sheriff's Cpl. Stephen Simonds.
The suspect admitted "snooping around" the office area on Sunday night because he couldn't sleep, including going through several drawers and covering a video camera, court papers state. He denied taking any property or prying open the office door.
