A jury on Friday acquitted a Waldorf man of attempted murder and eight other charges in the shooting of an Anne Arundel County woman, according to court records.
The trial of Jerold Raymond Burks, 23, lasted for five days, according to Kristin Fleckenstein, spokeswoman for the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office. Also charged in the Crofton shooting is Charles Brandon Martin, 32, of Bryans Road.
Burks was found not guilty of attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and several weapons charges.
"Obviously, we're extremely disappointed with the verdict, but we're now moving forward to the co-defendant's case. Because another case is pending, I can't really say anything more about the case at hand," Fleckenstein said.
Martin and the victim knew each other before the shooting on Oct. 27, 2008, and the woman was targeted in the incident, police reported. Martin's trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 30.
