Former Waldorf pastor Chuck Queen recently wrote a book focusing on the life of Jesus to discuss a "new" Christianity.

The Rev. Chuck Queen, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Waldorf from 1996 to 2002, recently released his first book, "The Good News According to Jesus: A New Kind of Christianity for a New Kind of Christian."

During his stay at Trinity, "I began to think more deeply about my faith and that sort of launched me on a journey of questioning, thinking and reflecting more deeply about what I believe," he said.

As a result of that reflection, the book shares a "more inclusive, gracious and credible view of the Christian faith than typically found in traditional Christianity," Queen said, adding that "it's grounded in the presentation of Jesus and his message in the synoptic gospels —‘Matthew,' ‘Mark' and ‘Luke.'"

Jesus' message is the kingdom of God on Earth, he said.

"Jesus envisioned a world transformed … where poverty and oppression and hate are eliminated, a world where that which has gone awry is made right and all is healed, renewed and made whole. … In the kingdom of God all are welcome, all have a place at the table, no one is excluded. It's about forgiveness, grace and reconciliation."

The book was published by Smyth and Helwys

Publishing; information is on the firm's Web site at www.helwys.com/books/good_news_according_to_jesus.html.

According to Cheryl Poole, a member at Trinity Baptist Church now and during Queen's time there, Queen is very upstanding and exhibits trust and honesty.

"I think he speaks nothing less than the truth, no matter what," she said.

Kevin Holder, pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Bryans Road, "was always impressed with Chuck's commitment to Christ, to his ministry, to his church and to his family," he said. "He's a faithful person in every aspect of his life."

Queen is pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Frankfort, Ky.

He received a master of divinity degree from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lakes, Ind., in 1985 and a doctor of ministry degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., in 1995.
